Germany recruits actively in the care professions, with strong requirements on two points: recognition of the qualification and the level of German. It is the destination most open to qualified profiles, and the most closed to those that are not.

Language
German is required, and its level governs both access to positions and recognition of diplomas. For care occupations an intermediate level is usually expected, attested by a recognised certificate. This is the main investment to plan before departure, and it is counted in months of study.
What to know before considering this destination
- Entry routes for work
- Germany has a specific immigration framework for skilled workers, which requires a recognised professional qualification and, in most cases, a job offer beforehand. The visa is applied for at the German consular post. Arrangements also exist to enter in order to complete a qualification recognition process begun from abroad.
- Qualifications and recognition of diplomas
- This is the heart of the matter. A diploma obtained outside Germany is not recognised automatically: it must go through an equivalence procedure conducted by the competent authority of the Land concerned, which may find full equivalence, partial equivalence, or the need for an adaptation course. This process is separate from the visa application, it takes time, and it is best started before anything else.
- The employer's role
- The employer provides the contract or the commitment to hire, and often takes part in the recognition procedure and in language support. Some care facilities organise overseas recruitment themselves and cover part of the pathway.
- Timeframes
- Allow generously, and above all count the preparation: learning the language to the required level, then the recognition procedure, then the visa application. This is the destination where the timeline is determined most by you and least by the administration.
- Costs that remain yours
- Language courses and certification, recognition procedure fees, certified translations, visa fees, and representation fees. Language costs are often the heaviest item.
